Hero
Chargers QB Philip Rivers, who in the past has had trouble with Rex Ryan defenses. Rivers, picking every mismatch available (and there were plenty), torched Ryan’s defense with 20-of-28 passing for 288 yards and 3 TDs. In the first half alone, Rivers was 14-of-19 for 244 yards and 2 TDs.
Unsung hero
Chargers rookie RB Branden Oliver, who rushed for 114 yards on 19 carries and scored a highlight-film 15-yard TD up the middle to give San Diego its 21-0 halftime lead. Oliver, who entered the game with 34 yards on 12 carries, had 43 yards and the TD on 10 carries in the first half to eclipse his career numbers. He added a 9-yard TD catch later in the game.
Zero
Jets GM John Idzik. True, the players play and the coaches coach, but you could not watch this game without noticing the gaping chasm in talent between the two teams — particularly in the secondary, where the Jets looked positively lost from the coin flip.
Numbers to know
15-3, 306-60. The first stat is the Chargers’ first-half edge on first downs and the second is the total yardage different.
Quote
“This is on one man: Me. I apologize to our fans — those that are left.’’ — Rex Ryan
