The circumstances of Alvin Kamara’s arrest in Las Vegas have taken another fascinating turn.

The Saints running back was arrested after the Pro Bowl at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday, charged with felony battery resulting in substantial bodily harm. Las Vegas police revealed they knew Kamara was a suspect before the game, and waited until it was over to arrest him.

“It was known that he (Kamara) would be participating in the Pro Bowl and was interviewed at Allegiant Stadium after the game,” Las Vegas Police told the Nevada Current. “Subsequently he was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center.”

Kamara caught four passes for 23 yards in the Pro Bowl, but did not make any rushing attempts in the NFC’s 41-35 loss to the AFC. The league was aware of his status before the game.

“We got in touch with NFL security about 10 o’clock in the morning and let them know that he (Kamara) was a suspect in the case and they located him and he was already on the field,” Assistant Sheriff John McGrath told the Current. “So they contacted him and he agreed to meet with us after the game. And so that’s just the way we did it since he was cooperating.”

According to police, Kamara admitted to punching alleged victim Darnell Greene, who suffered a fractured orbital bone in a brawl with Kamara and his associates by the elevators at Drai’s nightclub on the strip. Kamara reportedly told police that he punched Greene because he thought Greene was running away, but police said video evidence contradicted his claim.

Kamara recalled Greene calling one of his friends ugly and threatening to “whoop your ass, too.”
