Dwayne Haskins is shining in the Steelers quarterback battle.

Following a productive training camp, the 24-year-old completed 16 of 22 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh’s 24-16 win over the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday. The former first-round draft pick entered the game in the second quarter and led four scoring drives in five series.

Haskins’ preseason performance puts him in good standing in the quarterback race with Mason Rudolph for the backup spot behind Ben Roethlisberger — who has yet to take the field in preseason. Rudolph started Thursday’s game.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Haskins was “in command” against Philadelphia.

“He did a great job communicating with people, going through his progressions. There was a third-down play, third-and-8 maybe, and I saw him go through three or four reads and throw the ball over the middle of the field and converted for us,” Tomlin said, adding, “That was a snapshot of the night he had.”

Haskins’ showdown against the Eagles came after a solid preseason debut in last week’s Hall of Fame Game, a 16-3 victory against the Cowboys. He completed 8 of 13 passes for 54 yards.

The Steelers signed Haskins, the No. 15 pick overall in the 2019 NFL Draft, in January after he was released by Washington less than two years into his tenure.
