Jordan Lasley showed off his arm strength at Ravens camp on Monday, and got cut on Wednesday.
The first of those acts was done via celebrating a touchdown. Upon scoring, Lasley — a receiver — mustered all his strength and chucked the ball into a nearby pond. This came just after he started a fight with cornerback Cyrus Jones over how Jones was playing him in coverage, per ESPN. When safety Bennett Jackson tried to step in, Lasley attempted to fight him as well.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the fight, and subsequent touchdown celebration, had nothing to do with the decision to cut Lasley.
“We never cut anyone for fighting,” Harbaugh said, per ESPN. “It’s over a year now. From a fit perspective, in terms of what we’re trying to do with our offense, other guys are going to be a better fit.”
Lasley, a fifth-round pick in 2018, didn’t see the field last season, so there’s some merit to Harbaugh’s explanation.
That said, throwing a football in a pond can’t have helped the situation.
