This is why showing up to voluntary camp — or at least doing your own training — is important. When Ravens defensive tackle Michael Pierce showed up to the mandatory portion, he didn’t last long.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh kicked Pierce off the practice field after he almost failed to get through the stretching portion of practice.

“He’s not ready to practice from a safety standpoint and for his own health,” Harbaugh said, per ESPN.com. “We recognized that and pulled him off.”

Pierce is coming off a strong 2018 season, and enters free agency after this season. That was not enough of a motivator to stay in shape, apparently. The defensive tackle is listed at 6-foot, 340 pounds.

Pierce will now have to focus on getting in shape for training camp, as he’ll reportedly need to pass a conditioning test before playing.

“Oh sure, it’s a problem,” Harbaugh said, per the Baltimore Sun. “We want guys practicing. We want them ready to practice and physically able to practice. It’s very important.”
