The cult of Rex Ryan has worn on two franchises now, but his players’ devotion was never in question.

After Buffalo announced it had fired the blowhard coach on Tuesday, just before the final game of his second season with the team, several Bills players showed how Ryan could be a role model — in that they were outspoken in defending him.

Leger Douzable, who also played for Ryan with the Jets, was loudest on Twitter, rebelling against fans who thought it was time for a divorce after the Bills had sealed another playoff-less year. Buffalo (7-8) last made the postseason in 1999, a drought Ryan had vowed to end.

Douzable acknowledged the players “let Rex down,” but was angry at the move.

Makes no sense. Smh

I'm tired of people talking about the 17 year drought REX was here for 2 of those years hard to build a winner if the coach changes every

Two years.

Others were less vocal. Kolby Listenbee, a rookie wide receiver, retweeted a Chad Johnson post saying Ryan should have been given another year for his plan to develop.

Ronald Darby, a second-year Bills cornerback, captioned a picture simply “Tv timeout,” apparently stunned that the seemingly inevitable had happened. Unless he was predicting Ryan’s next move?
