Jets coach Rex Ryan, so far always the life of the party in his press conferences with his self-deprecating wit, yesterday displayed the first inkling of an edge while speaking to reporters.
It was a clear indication of the effect the Jets’ three-game losing streak is having on him.
Ryan clearly was agitated at the litany of stupid penalties his players committed — 14, which was most by a Jets team since 1996, when Rich Kotite was the coach.
He particularly ripped the “pre-snap penalties” and said, “We had some selfish penalties. Those are things that really irk me.”
Ryan obviously was ticked off at safety James Ihedigbo, who was penalized and ejected for taking a punch at helmetless Bills tight end Derek Fine in overtime.
When pressed on the “selfish” penalties, Ryan said, “I don’t want to discuss specific guys. I think you can figure it out.”
Ihedigbo told The Post after the game he didn’t punch Fine, but the TV replay clearly shows he took a swing at Fine, whose helmet had been knocked off in a scrum at the end of Leon Washington’s kickoff return to start OT.
The replay showed that Marques Murrell also took a swing at Fine, but he wasn’t penalized.
The personal foul left the Jets with a poor field-position start at their own 15-yard line.
Asked how he’s handling the issue, Ryan became uncharacteristically cryptic, saying, “I guess we’ll see going forward.”
Asked what he meant, he said, “You guys will see. I know what I’m going to do.”

Ryan said the reason he made the challenge on the 27-yard punt return by the Bills’ Fred Jackson late in regulation is because he saw on the jumbo screen that Jackson had stepped out of bounds.
Ryan threw the red challenge flag, but then heard from his coaches in the box that TV didn’t have any definitive replays to overturn the call, which wasn’t overturned. The Jets lost the challenge and a key timeout.
