The Buccaneers just got even more loaded.

Free agent cornerback Richard Sherman announced via his podcast that he is signing a deal with Tampa Bay. It is a one-year contract according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sherman remained unsigned throughout the offseason after spending 2018-20 with the 49ers. He faced legal troubles over the summer after allegedly driving under the influence and attempting to break into his in-laws’ house. He pled guilty to five misdemeanors stemming from the incident.

Previously, he was a key figure in the “Legion of Boom” Seahawks defense that won the Super Bowl in 2013 and came close in 2014. He made the Pro Bowl as recently as 2019, and at age 32 showed he had plenty left in the tank in 2020.

Now, he gets another chance with the reigning Super Bowl champions. It’s unclear whether Sherman will suit up for Sunday’s highly-anticipated game against the Patriots, but he is likely to have a significant role soon in wake of injuries to Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean.
