Jets head coach Robert Saleh said he believes quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be back in 2024, but he’s not about to force a commitment out of the 39-year-old.

“I wouldn’t put pressure on him to commit to something like that anyway, but I’d be shocked if he doesn’t play multiple years,” Saleh said Friday after practice. “He looks like a little kid out there.”

Rodgers, who is under contract through 2024, has hinted that he will return for a second season with the Jets, but has not said it outright.

“I don’t think he needs to,” Saleh said when asked if Rodgers has told the Jets he will be here next year. “I don’t want to even back him into a corner and make him commit to something like that. I just want him to have fun and know that when he walks into this building, to let loose, have a little bit of fun, BS with the guys, come in the office and come talk to us and just enjoy playing football. Odds are if you enjoy playing football, you’re going to want to keep doing that.”

Speaking Friday on ESPN Radio 98.7, Rodgers said it would be a “disservice” to play just one year for the franchise.

“I’m not a big cliché guy,” Rodgers said. “Most people would say, ‘I’m taking this one day at a time or one year at a time,’ but the Jets gave up a lot for me, so to play just one year would be, I think, a disservice, but if that one year turns out to be a magical year, who knows?”

The Jets have an extra week of training camp since they are playing in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3.

That has created a challenge for Saleh and his staff to figure out how to take advantage of the extra time without wearing the players out.

“We’re plugging some stuff to make it not feel like it’s a whole season,” Saleh said. “I know it’s just one week but that week is going to feel like forever especially when we get into the middle of August. We’ve implemented some team activities to try to break it up and just take care of the guys. It’s a good thing for the young guys because they’re going to get an extra look in a game setting, especially in that Hall of Fame Game where we’re probably not going to start our starters and let those young guys roll. It’s a good opportunity for them.”

The Jets will practice with pads on for the first time Tuesday. … DL Ife Odenigbo and RB Damarea Crockett were signed Friday, while TE Izaiah Gathings was released.
