Before he was won Super Bowl XLVIII and threw an interception to lose Super Bowl XLIX, Russell Wilson was cashing checks as a minor-league baseball player.

The Seahawks quarterback was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft by the Rockies after turning down a contract from the Orioles to attend N.C. State when he was drafted in the 41st round of the 2007 draft.

Wilson spent parts of two seasons — 2010 and 2011 — in the minors as a second baseman, and he has spent time with the Texas Rangers for a one-day workout the past two years. His batting practice session on Saturday didn’t look all that bad, and he posted a photo on Instagram of him making contact with the caption, “#GoingGoingGone.”

It would be stunning if Wilson ever left football to begin his baseball career again, but with the recent spate of early retirements in the NFL, anything’s possible.
