Safety Yeremiah Bell will sign a one-year contract with the Jets, according to an NFL source.

Pro Football Talk reported the the deal is worth $1.4 million.

“The deal includes a $200,000 signing bonus, a $1.1 million fully guaranteed base salary and a $100,000 workout bonus,” the report says.

The free agent safety, 34, was released by the Miami Dolphins in March. He could start ahead of Eric Smith alongside LaRon Landry in the Jets secondary.

“He’s a strong safety, not a free safety, who will struggle on the backend if they think he can get paired with Landry because Landry’s a strong safety, too,” one league talent evaluator said of Bell in April. “[He’s] good in run support, but not an interchangeable safety, either.”

The Jets roster was lacking in safeties, with only newcomer Landry and Smith experienced at the position. Draft pick Antonio Allen signed this week, joining second-year player Tracy Wilson. The team also drafted Josh Bush in April.

Bell chose the Jets over the Eagles, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. He also visited the Chiefs and Titans following his release.

Drafted by Miami out of Eastern Kentucky in the sixth round in 2003, the former team captain led the Dolphins in tackles the past four seasons and reached the Pro Bowl in 2009.
