Sam Darnold expressed his devastation over the death Sunday of former USC teammate Chris Brown, calling his friend “the greatest dude ever.”

USC coach Clay Helton said he was “heartbroken” over the death of the 24-year-old Brown, an offensive lineman for the Trojans from 2014-17, including two seasons with Darnold as the team’s starting quarterback. No cause of death has been released.

“Still can’t believe this,” the former Jets QB wrote on his Instagram page. “Rest easy brotha.”

Brown, an All-Pac 12 honorable mention, signed with the Chargers after going undrafted by the NFL, and he also played for the DC Defenders in the XFL in 2020.

Darnold, who was traded by the Jets to Carolina earlier this month, posted three photos of himself with Brown.
