The Jets lost one of their defensive starters in Sunday’s upset win over the Bills.

Defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins injured his elbow in the game and ESPN reported it is a dislocated elbow that could keep him out four to six weeks.

Jets coach Robert Saleh refused to go into detail on the injury but acknowledged Rankins will likely miss time. The Jets have a bye this week before facing the Patriots on Nov. 20.

“We’re going to allow the bye week to see what happens with him,” Saleh said. “He’s going to be week-to-week. As far as IR is concerned, we’re not even going to look at that until we get back from the bye week just to see how he responds to this week.”

Saleh said the team was “hopeful” it would not have to put Rankins on IR, which would put him out for four games. With the bye week this week, it is possible that Rankins could only miss three if he is on the more optimistic side of the timeline ESPN reported.

The Jets have stayed pretty healthy on defense this year, only losing linebacker Quincy Williams for two weeks to a sprained ankle. The Jets have some depth on the defensive line but Rankins has been solid for them in the middle. He has 25 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks this year.

QB Zach Wilson bounced back after his three-interception performance against the Patriots last week with a much better game in Sunday’s win over the Bills. Wilson had one fumble but did not have any interceptions and was decisive on when to run and when to throw. Saleh was asked where Wilson showed the most improvement.

“His pocket presence on third down,” Saleh said. “Last week in New England first and second down, I thought he did a lot of good things versus New England, third down just kind of fell apart for him a little bit with pressing to try to make a play. [Sunday], it doesn’t really show up in the stats because they’re not explosive plays, but he got two first downs with his legs [Sunday], which were huge first downs.”

Wilson said he is going home to Utah for the bye week but plans on throwing and watching film while he is away.

Wilson was asked about receiver Elijah Moore, who again had no targets on Sunday.

“It’s a tough one,” Wilson said. “I would love to get E. Moore the ball. For me in my situation, I’m going through the reads and everything. I think that’s more of a question for the coaches, and also the situation in general is tough. I think with time, he’s a great player, so we’re going to try to figure some stuff out to get him the ball.”
