The nagging question with Evan Engram is not about ability. It is availability.

The talented tight end on Tuesday was placed on season-ending injured reserve, meaning he will have missed the final seven games with a sprained foot.

This is an ongoing issue with Engram, the Giants’ 2017 first-round draft pick. He played in 15 games as a rookie but last season missed five games with knee and hamstring problems. This season, Engram made it into only eight games. He missed the Oct. 10 game with a knee injury, played in the next three games and then hurt his foot Nov. 4 against the Cowboys.

Engram caught a career-high 11 passes in the season-opening loss in Dallas. He finishes his third year with the Giants with 44 receptions for 467 yards and three touchdowns and in 2020 will enter the final year of his rookie contract.

Shutting Engram down guarantees the Giants will not play one snap this season with their four top offensive playmakers – Engram, Sterling Shepard, Golden Tate and Saquon Barkley – together on the field.

Receiver David Sills was signed off the practice squad to fill Engram’s spot on the roster. Tackle Nate Wozniak was signed to the practice squad.
