The Jets have suffered another injury in their already depleted secondary.
Safety Marcus Maye broke his thumb in Sunday’s win over the Colts, according to a source. Maye left the game in the third quarter and did not return. He had a cast on his right hand after the game.
It is unclear exactly how long Maye will be out, but he is expected to miss some time. It could be a few weeks, depending on how the bone heals and what the Jets medical staff can do to protect the thumb in a game situation with a wrap or special glove.
Maye missed the Jets’ first three games with a foot injury. He returned against the Jaguars and then played well in the Jets’ win over the Broncos the following week. He had a 104-yard interception return at the end of that game. He was tackled at the 1-yard line, making it the longest non-scoring interception return in NFL history.
The Jets played without starting cornerbacks Trumaine Johnson (quad) and Buster Skrine (concussion) in Sunday’s game. It is unclear if either or both of them will return this week against the Vikings.
