Giving reasons why this year’s Steelers will be ready to play the lowly Bengals on Thursday, Pittsburgh tackle Max Starks admitted his team overlooked the Jets when the teams played last season.
The 2007 Steelers had a 7-2 record before they played the Jets, who were 1-8. The Jets won 19-16 in overtime and finished the season 4-12.
The Bengals (1-8-1) recently beat Jacksonville and surprised the Eagles by tying them 13-13 Sunday.
“It’s a rivalry game and it’s a division game, so it means to a lot to us in a tight division,” Starks said. “Baltimore is not too far behind. You look at last year when we took (the Jets) for granted, and you saw what happened in that game.”
