In a blow to trophy makers and parents who just want their children happy, James Harrison has come down hard against participation awards.
The Steelers linebacker unleashed his parenting manifesto on Saturday when he came home to find trophies his kids had won for simply showing up. That kind of unwarranted pat on the back was too much for the 37-year-old.
“[T]hese trophies will be given back until they EARN a real trophy,” Harrison wrote on Instagram about the awards his 6- and 8-year-old sons had won for being “Best of the Batch.”
The #harrisonfamilyvalues sparked a great deal of social-media conversation. As of early Sunday afternoon, his post had garnered nearly 1,000 comments, most of which supported his rage against the millennial entitlement.
I am completely ok with James Harrison's approach.. If you aren't taught at a young age to earn accolades, then you become entitled & lazy

I love James Harrison's take in competition trophies. Life is a competition. Learn to compete.

Why are people in an uproar about James Harrison? 😳 First of all, those are HIS kids. Secondly, I totally agree. #SteelersNation
