JuJu Smith-Schuster avoided revenge in the form of a dirty hit from Vontaze Burfict, but he says he was the target of some verbal sparring from other Bengals.
The Steelers wide receiver said he got “major threats” from his opponents Sunday in a 28-21 win in the intense rivalry game.
“They were all making threats at me,” Smith-Schuster said, per the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Dropping f-bombs. Burfict was out there lying, saying I spit on him, which I didn’t.”
It was the first meeting between the teams since Smith-Schuster delivered a crackback block on Burfict and stood over him to taunt him for the hit that knocked the linebacker out of the game last December.
Burfict, who is typically on the other end of dangerous hits, saved his physicality Sunday for Antonio Brown, lowering his shoulder into the wide receiver’s helmet.
Smith-Schuster had his way against the Bengals, finishing with seven catches for 111 yards.
