INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The feat the Buccaneers pulled off after winning the Super Bowl last year was nearly as impressive as taking home the Lombardi Trophy.

Tampa Bay managed to bring back all 22 starters from its championship team, something that would seem nearly impossible. Now, the Bengals or the Rams will have to try to pull off that trick this year.

As soon as the confetti falls at Super Bowl 2022, the offseason is officially under way. The NFL Scouting Combine is in two weeks and free agency officially begins on March 16. Teams will look toward these two teams and try to steal some of their mojo. Free agents on Super Bowl teams can increase their value with big games in the Super Bowl and their current teams may overpay as they try to keep the band together like Tampa did a year ago.

Players may be inclined to take a deal friendlier to the team as they chase another ring, something that can work in a Super Bowl champ’s favor, as it did last year for the Bucs.

“We kinda found that during this process, that everybody wanted to be here,” Tampa Bay general manager Jason Licht said last year. “I don’t want to say they took discounts, but it wasn’t as difficult as it would be if we were coming off a 9-7 year, that’s for sure. They all wanted to be here. They all love playing for this coach. They all love playing with the quarterback and with each other.”

Looking at these two teams, the Bengals have an easier road to keeping things together. Cincinnati has plenty of young stars still on their rookie contracts. They also have a healthy salary cap situation. They are projected to have $57.3 million in cap space this year, per Over The Cap. That is plenty of money to try to hold onto any stars they want to keep.

Safety Jessie Bates is their No. 1 in-house free agent. Bates hoped to have a long-term deal before the 2021 season but it never came. He struggled early, admitting that the lack of a long-term deal was in his head. But he snapped out of what he called the “funk” late in the season and has been a critical part of the Bengals’ postseason run. The Bengals may use the franchise tag to keep Bates if they can’t sign him. It’s hard to imagine them letting him leave. Their other key free agents are: TE C.J. Uzomah, DL Larry Ogunjobi, CB Eli Apple, OL Quinton Spain and DL B.J. Hill.

The Rams already know they won’t return whole next season. Offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is expected to become the Vikings head coach this week and he will surely take some other Rams assistants with him.

Unlike the Bengals, the Rams are not in good shape with the salary cap. They are currently projected to be $13.6 million over the cap. GM Les Snead is going to have to make some moves to clear cap space. Their top free agents are: WR Odell Beckham Jr., Edge Von Miller, C Brian Allen, RG Austin Corbett, RB Sony Michel, NT Sebastian Joseph-Day and CB Donte Deayon.
