Matthew Stafford proved Patrick Mahomes isn’t the only one who can make no-look throws.

In the aftermath of the Rams’ victory against the Bengals in Super Bowl 56, Stafford’s best throw of the game – a laser into a tight window on the winning drive with just three minutes remaining – somehow became even more impressive.

Upon further review, Stafford used his eyes to trick the coverage into thinking he was going to throw into the flat to Brycen Hopkins. It bought just enough space to find favorite target Cooper Kupp on a slant to convert a second-and-7 with a 22-yard gain to the 24-yard line.

Mahomes has become synonymous with the no-look pass, making highlights out of throws that warrant a “No!” as soon as the ball leaves his hand. Other copycats have emerged in the last four years.

But Stafford’s no-look throw was simply smart old-school football – looking off the defense with his eyes. He later connected with Kupp, the game’s MVP, for the touchdown to finish off the 23-20 victory.

Stafford was 12-for-12 with nine first downs when targeting Kupp in the fourth quarter of four playoff games, according to ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky.
