Even in defeat, Patrick Mahomes showed love to the guys who had been around him all season.

As the Chiefs realized that midnight was about to strike on their quest for a third consecutive Super Bowl title, Mahomes went down the line to each of his skill players and dapped them up on the team bench.

The procession ended with Mahomes embracing Kelce in a long hug and the Chiefs tight end appeared to say something into Mahomes’ ear.

The moment between Mahomes and Kelce may serve even more significance depending on if the tight end returns to play another season, which has been up in the air a bit.

Kansas City fell to the Eagles, 40-22, as Philadelphia prevented the Chiefs from making NFL history by becoming the first team to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

The Chiefs didn’t score their first points until less than a minute left in the third quarter.

Mahomes threw for 257 yards on 21 completions for three touchdowns and two interceptions.

He was also sacked six times for a loss of 31 yards.

“We didn’t start the way we wanted to. Obviously the turnovers hurt,” Mahomes said. “I just got to take all the blame for that. Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game and they capitalized on them. They scored on the one and they got the touchdown immediately after. So that’s 14 points that I gave them and it’s hard to come back from that in a Super Bowl. Just didn’t play to my standard and I have to be better next time.”

Sunday’s win for the Eagles was a bit of revenge for Philadelphia, which lost to Kansas City two years ago.
