NFL players will be able to pick from an assortment of new numbers, but it won’t be cheap. For some, it could be quite pricey.
With the league allowing players to pick numbers that weren’t available beforehand, they will have to go into their pocket to pay for the unsold jerseys of their previous numbers, Pro Football Talk reported. Players will have to buy Fanatics’ unsold supply of their jerseys at retail prices.
Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, for instance, is staying with No. 33 after considering going to No. 4, according to Pro Football Talk. He would’ve had to pay $1.5 million to make the switch.
This policy impacts popular players the most, since more of their jerseys were made. Lesser-known players won’t have to pay nearly as much to make the switch.
