Tom Brady knows he whines to the referees — but he’s not apologizing.
“There were a lot of tight calls, and I was still complaining about all of them,” Brady said on his weekly “Let’s Go” podcast. “I’m always complaining to the referees.”
Brady was, indeed, often complaining to the referees during Tampa Bay’s 36-27 loss on Sunday. The Buccaneers picked up 11 penalties for 99 yards in the contest, and currently lead the NFL in penalty yardage.
Penalties were far from the only culprit for their loss. Brady threw two interceptions, including a pick-six with 1:24 to go that sealed the game.
“You’re not going to beat those guys with the number of penalties and turnovers,” Bucs coach Bruce Arians told reporters Monday. “That’s all we talked about all week going into the game.”
Brady said his harping didn’t have much impact.
Tom Brady argues with a referee Getty Images“Most of the time they basically ignore me, because everyone’s yelling for calls,” he said on the podcast. “… There’s holding for every play in the NFL, it’s just whether you’re going to call them or not. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don’t. They basically even out over the course of the season.”
Brady did credit the Saints, who he has yet to beat during the regular season while on the Bucs. But still, he added, that referees “lose sleep” when they see his name on their schedule.
“They realize I’m a pain in the ass,” Brady said. “That’s just kind of the way it goes.”
