Tom Brady did some clearing of the air Wednesday and said Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was not the subject of some fiery remarks.

Earlier this summer, the seven-time Super Bowl champion spoke on HBO’s “The Shop: Uninterrupted” about his whirlwind 2020 free agency that eventually saw him land with the Buccaneers. During the show, Brady threw shade at one team sticking with what he deemed a suboptimal quarterback.

“One of the teams, they weren’t interested at the very end,” Brady recalled. “I was thinking, ‘You’re sticking with that motherf–ker?’”

There had been plenty of speculation about which one of Brady’s potential suitors (Raiders, Bears, Chargers, Titans and 49ers) could’ve been the target of the comment. Pro Football Talk previously reported the Bears were not the ones in the crosshairs.

Wednesday, the future Hall of Famer added that it was neither Tennessee nor Tannehill.

“I like Ryan a lot,” Brady told reporters. “I think he’s a great player. Obviously a great leader for the team and done a great job.”

The Buccaneers and Titans square off in the preseason this Sunday and Brady added some more kind words for the Tennessee signal-caller before the game.

“Last year was phenomenal, year before that was great,” Brady said of Tannehill. “I really like competing against him a lot, he’s beaten me quite a few times.”

Since joining the Titans, Tannehill has gone 18-8 and thrown for 55 touchdowns with only 13 interceptions. During the 2019 postseason, Tannehill went on the road and beat the Patriots in the wild-card round, ending Brady’s illustrious career in New England.

On the other side, Tannehill also expressed admiration for Brady.

“Over two decades now where he’s been playing at a high level, so a ton of respect for him and what he’s been able to do,” Tannehill said, according to the Tennessean.

So who was Brady referring to with his inflammatory comment? Was it the 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo? Only time will tell if the veteran will reveal the answer.
