You’re not going to believe this… but some incompetent refereeing happened on “Monday Night Football.”
And Troy Aikman wasn’t having it.
Late in the first half of the Giants’ 24-22 home win over the Packers, the referees took a long time to determine whether a kickoff had hit Giants tight end Lawrence Cager.
What should have been an easy call — as the ball clearly hit Cager — instead turned into a lengthy wait for the call with halftime just 13 seconds away.
And that’s when Aikman lost it.
“The problem with all this is just make the call, ya know?” Aikman said. “There’s 13 seconds in the half – just make a decision. This is what stops all these games. The officials, I know, they’ve been talked about every week, but this is ridiculous what we’re watching right now.
“I mean, we see something that takes five seconds and takes them five minutes.”
While the referees got this call right, the zebras have been under fire in recent weeks for certain calls and non-calls that have affected games.
Sunday’s Chiefs-Bills contest featured the controversial offensive offsides call that appeared to be correct but had Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes ripping the refs.

Lawrence Cager was at the center of the play that irked Troy Aikman. @ArtieSchweitzer/XThe refs flagged wide receiver Kadarius Toney for lining up offsides, which negated a go-ahead touchdown on a wild lateral from tight end Travis Kelce to Toney.
In the Chiefs’ previous game, the refs did not call a clear pass interference that would have set the Chiefs up inside the red zone in their Week 13 loss to the Packers.

They’re human. They make mistakes. But every week, we’re talking about something.”
Hopefully, the referees can get their act together for Aikman – and NFL fans – next Monday night when the Seahawks host the Eagles in a game with massive playoff implications.
