Of the eight names on the Giants injury report only one comes as a surprise: DE Osi Umenyiora. He’s listed with a knee problem and did not practice today.
“Wear and tear,” said Tom Coughlin, who hopes to have Umenyiora available for practice tomorrow. There was no mention of Umeniyora having a problem coming out of the season-opening 31-18 victory over the Panthers.
Otherwise, there are no surprises on the list. WR Hakeem Nicks caught three touchdown passes in the opener but had to leave the field briefly in the first quarter. He’s on the injury report with “ankle” after his name and also did not practice. He, too, is expected back tomorrow.
The others: LT Will Beatty (foot), LB Chase Blackburn (knee), TE Kevin Boss (concussion), LB Phillip Dillard (hamstring), CB Aaron Ross (foot) and LB Gerris Wilkinson (groin). Tom Coughlin said on Monday that Ross – who missed the opener battling through a partially torn plantar fascia – would practice today.
Boss has been ruled out of the game because of the concussion.
Ross was expected to practice fully, which is vital, considering no team can ever have enough cornerbacks when facing Peyton Manning.

Coughlin said with Beatty (broken right foot) set to undergo surgery tomorrow, Shawn Andrews is the new backup tackle. Andrews had been working at left guard since signing on the last day of training camp.
If the Giants were really upset about losing RB Andre Brown they can do something about it. Brown today was waived by the Broncos after they traded with the Patriots for Laurence Maroney. Brown, coming off surgery to repair his Achilles tendon, didn’t make it out of the last round of cuts with the Giants but they wanted to bring him back to their practice squad before the Broncos claimed him off waivers.
The Giants today signed OL Dennis Landolt to fill the eighth and final spot on their practice squad.
