Though WR Anquan Boldin said differently, there is no Tuesday deadline for the Cardinals to renegotiate his contract, according to the Arizona Republic.
The paper says, Arizona GM Rod Graves “has declined to detail his conversation with [agent Drew] Rosenhaus on Thursday, but acknowledged that it didn’t include a deadline.
‘We’re not aware of any deadlines, and our position with Anquan hasn’t changed,’ Graves said.”
The two sides have been going back and forth about a new contract since before last season. Boldin has two years to run on his exisiting contract but has been seeking a new deal.
Boldin has been vocal about wanting out of Arizona, and could provide an option for the Giants if they part with Plaxico Burress.
An NFL source told Profootballtalk.com that Boldin “informed the team that he is now willing to consider a new deal — if it pays him fairly in light of the existing market.”
The Arizona Republic said: “His change of heart, however, likely won’t prompt the Cardinals to rush to the bargaining table.”
According to the paper, “GM Rod Graves said the team’s position on Boldin remains unchanged. ‘Our intent all along has been to consider a long-term deal for him at the best window of opportunity.’
Graves said then he didn’t know if that window would be open this spring. ‘I think a lot of things have to come into play and have to be satisfied before we can even address that window of opportunity,’ he said.”
