The Vikings have fired head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman, according to numerous reports.

The moves were made early Monday morning, the first day after the regular season ended, which is typically known as “Black Monday” as it is the day many of the league’s coaches and general managers are fired.

Zimmer is coming off a disappointing season with the Vikings finishing 8-9 and out of the playoffs for the second straight year. He spent seven years as the team’s head coach, making the playoffs three times, including in 2017 when Minnesota went to the NFC Championship Game following the “Minneapolis Miracle” victory over the Saints.

Spielman had been the Vikings’ general manager since 2012, spending 10 years as the team’s top personnel man after six years as their vice president of player personnel.

The Vikings will now begin their search for a new head coach and GM with the team in transition. Quarterback Kirk Cousins is still under contract but an otherwise young and inexperienced roster surrounding him.
