Patriots legend Vince Wilfork believes Mac Jones should be showing “some poise” as New England’s starting quarterback.
The former nose tackle’s comment comes after Jones’ frequent displays of frustration in games throughout his sophomore campaign. With the Patriots battling for a wild card spot, Wilfork thinks Jones needs to “control what you can control” as New England enters a vital stretch in the season.
“I’m tired of [it]. You’re a leader of this team, you’re a quarterback,” Wilfork told NBC Sports Boston about Jones’ antics. “You can’t be frustrated every single week, every single play. I don’t care if you’re getting the play-call in late or whatever it may be…
“At this point, I’m tired of seeing it. I think a lot of other people are tired of seeing it and I’m here to say it: We’re tired of seeing it.”
Besides Wilfork, former Patriots star Julian Edelman ripped into Jones’ antics as well, saying the second-year signal-caller is making “little pissy faces” when things don’t go his way.
Jones defended himself about being outwardly emotional, telling reporters he’s naturally going to be passionate and he’s trying to “do everything right” while playing. The 24-year-old, however, recently was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct after being sacked against the Bills.
