Jets coach Rex Ryan stopped just short of ruling cornerback Dee Milliner out of Sunday’s game with the Raiders, but the coach made it pretty clear Milliner won’t play.

Milliner, who suffered a high left ankle sprain 3 ½ weeks ago, did not practice again Wednesday.

“I never want to rule a guy out … but let’s hope he practices soon,” Ryan said. “He’s been away for a little while. I’d like to see him practice, obviously, but I’m not going to say for sure he’s not going to play until we get a little further along. I know he’s pushing hard, but the fact that he’s not even limited is a little bit of a concern.”

Milliner did some running with the trainers during the period of practice open to the media, but it was all straight running, no cutting.

Milliner, entering his second season with the Jets, said the ankle is getting better.

“There’s a little [pain] there, but it’s not like it was,” he said. “I can move around with no pain.”

Milliner is itching to get back on the field.

“I leave it in the hands of people that know what they’re doing,” he said. “Of course, if it was me, I would say ‘Put me out there!’ But I’m going to listen to the people that are [trainers] and know what they’re doing. That’s what their job is.”

With Milliner out, the Jets will start the unproven duo of Antonio Allen and Darrin Walls at cornerback.

The Raiders will fly here Thursday, hoping an early arrival will cure their East Coast problems. Oakland has not won a game in the Eastern time zone since 2009, a losing streak of 13 games.

“We need to do something different to give ourselves an opportunity maybe to get our body clocks adjusted a little bit,” Raiders coach Dennis Allen said. “The definition of insanity, in my mind, is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.”

Besides Milliner, the only other Jets who did not practice were S Josh Bush (quad) and LB IK Enemkpali (foot). LB Nick Bellore (calf) was limited.
