Two young players couldn’t make it out of the game without injuries as the Giants beat the Redskins yesterday in the season opener at Giants Stadium.

Rookie receiver Hakeem Nicks had to be carted off the sideline with a left foot injury after he was tackled following a seven-yard reception early in the fourth quarter. Nicks had to be helped onto the cart, but X-rays were negative and he was diagnosed with a sprained left foot. He returned to the sideline on crutches. Nicks caught two passes for 18 yards in his NFL debut.

It took just five seconds for the Giants to experience their first significant injury of the season. Running back Danny Ware took the opening kickoff back 17 yards, was tripped up and landed hard on his arm. He suffered a dislocated elbow and will be sidelined for several weeks. That left the Giants with two running backs for the entire game. The likely move will be to sign RB Allen Patrick off the practice squad.
