Weston Richburg snaps to quarterback Eli Manning during Giants minicamp on April 27.Bill KostrounWeston Richburg knows what he did and is doing this offseason to get himself ready for his starting center job with the Giants. He also seems to know how the other members of the Giants’ offensive line spent their time, and Richburg prefers his preparation.
Richburg trained at the O-Line Performance Center in Chandler, Ariz., run by LeCharles Bentley, a former longtime NFL offensive lineman. Richburg has done this ever since the Giants made him their 2014 second-round draft pick out of Colorado State.
“The percentage of guys who are just OK to be [in the NFL] is pretty high,’’ Richburg told CBSSports.com. “This is pretty rare. The majority of my offensive line is not doing anything right now.
“I know a lot of guys are just happy to be there. That’s the difference between them and the guys who are here [at the performance center].”
Richburg and the rest of last year’s starting Giants offensive line – Justin Pugh, Ereck Flowers, Marshall Newhouse and John Jerry – are currently participating in the team’s offseason workout program. Richburg is coming off his best season, his first at his natural center position, after working out of his comfort zone as a rookie at left guard.
