Odell Beckham wants a chance at postseason redemption. This time, on dry land.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Beckham — who will be waived by the Browns on Monday after his spot on the team became untenable — wants to be with a playoff contender and in a winning environment. And if a team that isn’t contending claims Beckham, there could be issues for that team.
Beckham’s lone postseason appearance came with the 2016 Giants, a loss against the Packers before which Beckham was infamously on a boat with teammates in Florida. Last season, when the Browns made the divisional round, Beckham missed both games because of an ACL tear he suffered in Week 7.
Nine teams have the cap space to claim Beckham, who has $7.25 million on his contract, per Schefter: the Jaguars, Eagles, Broncos, Seahawks, Panthers, Chargers, Steelers, Bengals and Washington. Beckham, though, is reportedly expected to clear waivers, which would leave him free to sign with any team.
Odell Beckham Jr. wants his next NFL team to be a playoff contender after he’s officially waived by the Browns on Monday. APSome players have already reached out to the receiver to pitch signing with their teams, according to Schefter.
Beckham has just 17 catches for 232 yards this season without a touchdown. The Browns waived him after Beckham seemingly attempted to orchestrate an exit, with his father posting critically on social media about Baker Mayfield and other Beckham allies, including LeBron James, tweeting “#FreeOBJ.”
Beckham, who would clear waivers on Tuesday if he isn’t claimed, is likely to have a deal in place with another team next week, per Schefter.
He didn’t practice with the Browns last week, as his situation got sorted out. The 4-4 Browns play Cincinnati on Sunday.
