The Jets have felt good about their roster depth all summer and apparently the rest of the NFL agrees.
There were a whopping seven players waived by the Jets on Tuesday who were claimed by other teams on Wednesday. It was the most players claimed in the NFL. The Bills were second with four players picked up. The Jets did not claim any players.
This was another indication of the depth of the roster that general manager Joe Douglas has built. The Jets have rarely had any players claimed after cutdown day in recent years.
The players claimed on Wednesday were: CB Javelin Guidry (Cardinals), OT Chuma Edoga (Falcons), LB Del’Shawn Phillips (Ravens), TE Trevon Wesco (Bears), S Jason Pinnock (Giants), CB Isaiah Dunn (Seahawks) and CB Rachad Wildgoose (Commanders).
Douglas said it backs up what coach Robert Saleh tells players about playing hard and people noticing. “When you put it on tape, 31 other teams are seeing it, too,” Douglas said. “If you do things the right way, you take care of your body, you listen to the coaching staff, you listen to our performance staff, you listen to our training staff, it’s going to show and other teams are going to take notice. Obviously, other teams did take notice. It’s a real credit to our coaching staff. It’s a credit to these players.”

“I honestly felt like we had six 53-man worthy safeties,” Douglas said. “That was probably one of the more excruciating cutdowns to go from the numbers we had to four. Ultimately, a lot that went into that decision was outside of the two starters, special teams was going to be a large component of that in terms of the two backups.”
Douglas said he hoped to bring Pinnock back on the practice squad but the Giants grabbed him. Parks is a member of the practice squad.
Saleh said DE Vinny Curry will likely land on injured reserve for the first four weeks. … Douglas said OT Mekhi Becton had knee surgery in Los Angeles recently and is currently rehabbing there. He said the doctors are confident Becton will be able to play again. … The Jets signed 13 players to the practice squad: WR Calvin Jackson, QB Chris Streveler, WR Tarik Black, WR Irvin Charles, TE Kenny Yeboah, OT Chris Glaser, OT Grant Hermanns, DE Bradlee Anae, DT Jonathan Marshall, DT Tanzel Smart, LB Hamsah Nasirildeen, LB DQ Thomas and Parks.
