Aaron Rodgers is continuing his crusade against the media.
On his weekly appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Rodgers was asked about the “Boomer & Gio” segment from WFAN on Friday where a catfishing texter claiming to have knowledge of Rodgers’ plans told Boomer Esiason that the Packers quarterback was preparing to boycott the Super Bowl over NFL COVID-19 protocols if Green Bay won two games to get there.
“You have to bring all the possibilities into place. Ratings. We need more ratings,” Rodgers said.
“It’s become fairly standard. Mention me in the same sentence and use tag words like doctor, Joe Rogan, Ivermectin, COVID, COVID toe fill in the blank. You’re gonna get some ratings.”
In fairness to “Boomer & Gio,” after appearing to act like the text might actually be real, they eventually came to the conclusion they were being catfished in a hoax. However, the clip that went viral, which Rodgers is still discussing, did not include that realization.
Rodgers responded on social media to the viral part of the segment with a variety of sarcastic hashtags on Friday.
Green Bay’s backup quarterbacks Jordan Love and Kurt Benkert, along with former backup Matt Flynn, eventually joined the social media brouhaha. This saga might be studied in textbooks one day.
“I’ve given a lot less f–ks the last couple years. But one thing I do give a major f–k about is narratives about me — especially ones that are so ridiculously off-base,” Rodgers said. “And this one was pure comedy for me. But, when pure comedy turns into slightly more reputable news outlets to mention that, where it becomes a bigger story, I just felt like it was time to end that.”
“Let me just say this, no one in my inner circle is talking to the media. No one that I trust and care about and have conversations with is talking to any media member. [They’re] not gonna leak anything.
Aaron Rodgers will likely win this year’s NFL MVP award. AP“I told A.J. [Hawk] this too. That topic that was brought up is so ridiculously stupid, it’s even past the point that you would even joke about that. Do I have an issue with some [COVID] protocols? Of course. But I would never even joke about this. It’s the dumbest f–king thing, it’s so dumb I wouldn’t even joke about it. There couldn’t be anybody in my circles who would ever have any bit of information to even joke about it.”
