Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is taking his time coming back to the field — and that includes skipping out on some OTAs with his new team.
The 30-year-old wideout elaborated Tuesday on his decision to miss some “voluntary” activities as he continues to work his way back from a torn ACL he sustained in Super Bowl 2022, when he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams.
“I think the excitement when I signed with Baltimore, me not being there – we have to get to the place where we understand that all that stuff (OTAs) is voluntary, and each individual has their own lives and we don’t know what’s going on with the individual and their life,” Beckham told Fox News Digital.
That said, Beckham was back in action for the first time in 16 months in early June, when he attended Baltimore’s mandatory mini-camp.

Although he was labeled a “full go” at minicamp, Beckham is taking his recovery process seriously, with an emphasis on full-season durability versus immediate action.
“I think I’m at the place where I have that one more notch that I’m kicking into and I’m trying to save it because these seasons are long, man, and it’s all about peaking at the right moment,” Beckham said.

“It’s built with reps in the game and seeing that success there. It starts with being able to communicate and talk off the field,” Beckham said. “I don’t care if the quarterback was a rookie. You tell me what you need me to do and I’ll get that done and we adjust from there.”
Although the three-time Pro Bowler is currently working away from the team, he’s looking to have a big impact on Baltimore’s offensive game this season.
Odell Beckham Jr plans to be back for Opening Day with the Ravens. APBeckham has familiarity with Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, as the two worked together in Cleveland in 2019 –– the last 1,000-yard season Beckham posted.
“It’s about peaking at the right time. There’s no other way for me to put it,” Beckham said. “I think the most important thing is about how to get there and how to last for the season.”
