Xavier McKinney spoke out about not being heard by the Giants coaches.
One of nine remaining elected co-captains, McKinney expressed frustrations after Sunday’s 30-6 loss to the Raiders over a disconnect that he sees between the players and coaches.
“I think that from a leadership standpoint, I don’t think they’ve done a great job of letting the leaders lead, and listening to the leaders and the captains,” he told ESPN. “But obviously it sucks losing.”
The words are the first to suggest head coach Brian Daboll could have a bigger problem on his hands than a 2-7 record.
Daboll balked Monday at the idea that he could be losing a hold on the locker room, which is an issue that expedited the downfalls of predecessors Ben McAdoo and Joe Judge in their second seasons.
“We do the same thing every week since we’ve gotten here,” Daboll said, referring to Friday captains’ meetings. “We meet every week: Good talks, go through situations, things around the building. So, very comfortable with the leadership that we have, how we communicate with them and how they communicate with us.”

“It was one of those things where you have some of your leaders, captains from a defensive standpoint, trying to switch things up,” McKinney said. “And just not really being heard.
“I don’t know. There are other things too that we could’ve done. The execution stuff could’ve been better. But when you got guys out there that are playing and seeing different things and are being vocal and communicating that with the coaches and whoever and are not being heard, it’s hard to go out there and be able to make plays and do things of that nature.”

The fourth-year safety didn’t necessarily see eye-to-eye with the last Giants’ regime, either.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas, a fellow-co-captain, said he feels heard, though it is worth noting that he and McKinney play on opposite sides and deal with different assistants.
“I don’t know exactly where he is coming from or where he is feeling that, but me, personally, I think we do a good job being able to communicate with the staff on anything that we need,” Thomas said. “Any frustrations or whatever or any questions we have, I feel like they are pretty open.”

“Saturday morning was when I knew [I could play],” Thomas said. “Coming out of the game … moving around pretty good, I did my lift when we got back, so I’m feeling pretty good.”
The Giants signed veteran kicker Randy Bullock to the practice squad last Thursday.
They signed Cade York off the Titans’ practice squad to their active roster Friday.
Bullock was elevated Sunday and given the first chance to replace injured Graham Gano, with York inactive for the game.
Why was York needed then?
“We think he’s got some potential,” Daboll said, “but we thought going with Randy was the best thing for the team.”
