It was a glorious start to the 2016 DFS NFL season, but that only lasted until Monday night — when the walls all closed in for our FanDuel users and somehow Todd Gurley, Vance McDonald and the Rams DST failed to get us the dozen points required to cash across the board.
Fortunately, Draft Kings and Fantasy Aces were as good as gold. So, we’ll take an up-and-down start to the season and move on to Week 2.
This week the entire universe will be invested in the Saints-Giants game with Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. as the heavy chalk. The Buccaneers-Cardinals and Falcons-Raiders will get plenty of attention too, as each of these contests has a high expected point total.
If you are playing cash games, these and a few others that I will outline for you shortly, are the places to be invested. But if you are striving for tournament fame and fortune, you are going to have to dig a little (or a lot) deeper than that.
Too many of you are stunned when you don’t make profits on a “good” lineup in GPPs. Well, unfortunately folks, that is the nature of the beast. My recommendation is to become happy with doubling whatever money you put in each week. Don’t fall in love with the hundreds of thousands of dollars or even a million-dollar top-prize in these tournaments. Those are a pipe dream. Get back to reality and let’s focus on winning this week.
Here is the Fantasy Alarm DFS NFL Playbook for Week 2:
QB, Eli Manning, Giants vs. Saints
FanDuel: $8,100
DraftKings: $7,600
FantasyAces: $6,650
Breakdown: Eli is an easy target this week. He plays in an up-tempo offense against a terrible defense that is missing its best player in Delvin Breaux. This game has the highest expected point total, and yet he is the the ninth-highest priced QB on FD. He will be the highest owned QB of Week 2.
QB, Cam Newton, Panthers vs. 49ers
FD: $9,000
DK: $7,900
FA: $7,300
QB, Derek Carr, Raiders vs. Falcons
FD: $8,300
DK: $7,200
FA: $6,300
QB, Josh McCown, Browns vs. Ravens
FD: $6,000
DK: $5,000
FA: $5,000
QB, Joe Flacco, Ravens at Browns
FD: $7,400
DK: $6,500
FA: $6,250
RB, Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys at Redskins
FD: $7,900
DK: $7,300
FA: $5,100
Breakdown: As excited as everyone was about Zeke’s first game, I just haven’t heard the same buzz entering this week for some reason. The Cowboys gameplan certainly will center around the ground attack, as they do not want to expose young QB Dak Prescott to the Redskins’ tough corners in Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland. Zeke might touch the ball 30 times this week, and considering what 33-year-old Steelers RB DeAngelo Williams did to the Redskins last week, I am licking my chops about Elliott this week.
RB, Lamar Miller, Texans vs. Chiefs
FD: $7,700
DK: $7,200
FA: $5,200
RB, David Johnson, Cardinals vs. Buccaneers
FD: $9,000
DK: $7,600
FA: $6,000
RB, Ryan Mathews, Eagles at Bears
FD: $6,300
DK: $5,800
FA: $4,800
FD: $6,300
DK: $5,600
FA: $4,800
Breakdown: Very solid and inexpensive option in what many believe will be the highest scoring game of the week. If the Giants get out to a big lead, Jennings could wind up with 25-plus touches, and the more points on the board means the more likelihood of a TD or two coming his way also.
RB, C.J. Anderson, Broncos vs. Colts
FD: $7,800
DK: $6,800
FA: $5,700
RB, T.J. Yeldon, Jaguars at Chargers
FD: $6,500
DK: $4,700
FA: $4,800
WR, Odell Beckham, Giants vs. Saints
FD: $9,400
DK: $9,500
FA: $6,350
Breakdown: Wonder if anybody is going to have the Eli/ODB combo this week? LOL. Beckham is clearly the WR with most upside on the slate this week. I would not ignore his teammate, Sterling Shepard, though as one of these two are guaranteed to have a huge ballgame against the depleted Saints.
WR, Amari Cooper, Raiders vs. Falcons
FD: $7,900
DK: $7,600
FA: $5,500
WR, Emmanuel Sanders, Broncos vs. Colts
FD: $6,700
DK: $6,000
FA: $5,000
WR, Alshon Jeffery, Bears vs. Eagles
FD: $7,800
DK: $7,700
FA: $5,200
WR, A.J. Green, Bengals at Steelers
FD: $8,900
DK: $8,900
FA: $6,000
WR, Michael Floyd, Cardinals vs. Buccaneers
FD: $7,000
DK: $5,900
FA: $4,650
WR, Tajae Sharpe, Titans at Lions
FD: $4,900
DK: $4,000
FA: $3,950
WR, Anquan Boldin, Lions vs. Titans
FD: $5,700
DK: $4,500
FA: $4,200
Delanie WalkerAPTE, Delanie Walker, Titans at Lions
FD: $6,600
DK: $4,500
FA: $4,600
Breakdown: The Lions surrendered seven catches and three TDs to Colts tight ends last week. Mike Mularkey said this week that it is “essential” for the Titans to get Walker more involved in the passing game, and I fully expect that to happen this week.
TE, Antonio Gates, Chargers vs. Jaguars
FD: $5,900
DK: $4,500
FA: $4,400
TE, Dwayne Allen, Colts at Broncos
FD: $6,200
DK: $3,600
FA: $4,200
TE, Brent Celek, Eagles at Bears
FD: $4,800
DK: $2,600
FA: $3,800
K, Brandon McManus, Broncos vs. Colts
FD: $4,700
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
K, Matt Prater, Lions vs. Titans
FD: $4,600
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
K, Sebastian Janikowski, Raiders vs. Falcons
FD: $4,600
DK: N/A
FA: N/A
DST, Seattle, Seahawks at Rams
FD: $5,200
DK: $3,800
FA: $3,400
Breakdown: The Rams have no offense. If the Seahawks can stop Todd Gurley, they are home free to hold the Rams under 10 points with a shutout very possible.
DST, Arizona, Cardinals vs. Buccaneers
FD: $4,800
DK: $3,500
FA: $3,150
DST, New England, Patriots vs. Dolphins
FD: $4,500
DK: $3,000

DST, Houston, Texans vs. Chiefs
FD: $4,900
DK; $3,400
FA: $3,000
DST, Los Angeles, Rams vs. Seahawks
FD: $4,300
DK: $3,300
FA: $3,000
