The Patriots hit the Jets below the belt both figuratively and literally Sunday.

New England continued its dominance over Gang Green with a 15-10 win on a rainy day at MetLife Stadium that featured 16 total punts between the two teams.

It was the Patriots’ 15th consecutive victory over the Jets and it followed the script of many of the recent games with the Jets offense failing to move the ball.

The Jets were accustomed to former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady delivering shots that made them wince, but Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner said Mac Jones hit him in the “private parts” after a play Sunday, adding injury to insult in this one.

“He’s trying to stop me from having kids in the future,” Gardner joked.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick continued his mastery over the NYJ.

The Patriots held the Jets to 60 yards in the first three quarters before the Jets broke through with one long drive in the fourth quarter.

Zach Wilson continues to provide no evidence he can be a quarterback to lead the Jets to a good season.

He completed 18 of 36 passes for 157 yards, with only 29 yards passing in the first half.

This naturally led to boos in the stadium and postgame questions about whether the Jets need to bring in another quarterback.

“Right now, Zach … he is who gives us the best chance to win,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said, saying the team will stick with Wilson.

The nightmare is coming true for the Jets.

Their season suffered a death blow four plays into Week 1 when Aaron Rodgers tore his left Achilles tendon.

The miracle win over the Bills gave them some false hope that they could play around Wilson, but it has not worked through the last two weeks.

The defense held the Patriots to one touchdown and just 13 points but that was not enough to get a win.

It felt like 2022 all over again, with the defense saying they need to pitch a shutout for the Jets to win.

“We didn’t do our job,” Gardner said. “Our standards are different. We’ve got the mentality that we don’t want to give up nothing, especially busted coverages. That just can’t happen.”

The Jets gave up one 58-yard touchdown pass from Jones to tight end Pharaoh Brown early in the second quarter.

Other than that, they held the Patriots to four field-goal attempts, two of which were made.

The Patriots entered the fourth quarter up 13-3 when Wilson and the offense mounted their only drive of more than 33 yards all day.

Wilson completed 7 of 10 passes on the 87-yard drive, including nice passes to Tyler Conklin and Allen Lazard.

A pass interference penalty on Patriots defensive back Myles Bryant in the end zone gave the Jets the ball at the 1, and fullback Nick Bawden scored the Jets’ first rushing touchdown of the season from there.

Despite all the offensive futility, the Jets were down just 13-10 with 5:24 left in the game and had multiple shots to win the game.

The defense got the offense the ball back with 2:44 left at its own 10.

On third-and-15 from the 5, Patriots edge Matthew Judon used a spin move to get past left tackle Mekhi Becton and sacked Wilson for a safety and a 15-10 lead.

The Jets got the ball back again at their own 45 with 1:43 left, but three straight incompletions followed by a 2-yard pass on fourth-and-10 ended that chance.

Their final hope came on a desperation 54-yard heave by Wilson with one second left that Patriots safety Kyle Dugger deflected and Randall Cobb nearly caught.

The final incompletion ended a long, tough day for a Jets team that was hoping to go 2-0 in the division and start 2-1 for the first time since 2015.

Instead, they are 1-2 and face a three-game stretch that features last year’s Super Bowl teams — the Chiefs and the Eagles.

The Jets talked all week about running the ball but managed just 38 yards on 22 carries — an average of 1.7 yards per.

“You’re trying to establish a run game and I think it was under 2 yards a carry today,” Saleh said. “You’re within a score and you’ve got some opportunities and you’ve got the ball with opportunities and you have decent field position with opportunities. We’ve just got to be better.”

Signs of frustration bubbled up during the game with both running back Michael Carter, who had one catch for 3 yards, and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who had five catches for 48 yards, caught by CBS cameras arguing with coaches on the sideline.

“We’re not necessarily frustrated with anything that would have to do with a play call or a scheme or anything of that nature,” Carter said. “We’re alphas. We’re competitive. We want to win more than anything else in this world. We work for six months and we kick it for the rest of the year. It means a lot. I’m tired of watching Beyonce’s [Super Bowl] halftime show. I want to be in the locker room game-planning.”

It sure feels like the Jets will be watching Usher during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.

The hopes and good vibes from the summer have disappeared like the 95 degree temperatures.

Fall is here and there is already a chill around the Jets.

“They do a good job mixing up the looks, and we didn’t always have the answer,” Garrett Wilson said. “We coulda lost that game by two, three touchdowns the way we played on the offensive side of the ball. Reality. We gotta figure it out. I like to think we’re not too far off, but the reality of it is, we gotta go do it, and it can’t be during the practice week. It’s gotta be on Sunday, when it matters.”
