Zach Wilson started a Jets drive in the second quarter by falling onto his back running onto the field — laughing it off with the sideline — and ended it with a costly interception.

He nearly threw a pick to Christian Benford on the drive’s second play.

Then, Rasul Douglas, who the Bills acquired from the Packers ahead of the trade deadline, jumped in front of a throw for Garrett Wilson and flipped possession for Buffalo in the Jets’ eventual 32-6 loss Sunday.

Before the drive began, as Zach Wilson turned and backpedaled onto the field while facing the sideline, he tripped and tumbled over onto the Highmark Stadium field, and CBS reporter Tracy Wolfson said the Jets’ sideline “was cracking up.”

Wilson just glanced toward the sideline and started laughing, too, since that’s “all he could do,” Wolfson added.

He followed the running gaffe by completing a pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert for a first down.

That was followed by the pass that was almost intercepted.

And when Douglas snagged the ball one play later, it continued a brutal stretch for the Jets to start the game and marked Wilson’s second consecutive week with an interception.

The Bills turned the pick into a touchdown five plays later, with James Cook cutting out of the backfield, collecting a pass from Josh Allen and sprinting five yards into the end zone to give the Bills a 16-0 lead.

Wilson was eventually benched for backup quarterback — and third-string quarterback when Aaron Rodgers was healthy — Tim Boyle, who completed 7-of-14 passes for 33 yards and an interception in what essentially became a three-drive audition for the Jets’ starting quarterback spot Friday against the Dolphins.

Though he helped the Jets snap their touchdown drought at 41 possessions, Wilson didn’t spark the offense again, and now he’s facing a similar situation to what unfolded in 2022.

First, he was benched for Mike White.

Then, after White was injured and Wilson started again, he was benched for Chris Streveler.

Postgame, head coach Robert Saleh didn’t commit to a quarterback for Week 12, though he acknowledged the Jets don’t have much time to decide due to the condensed week.

In addition to Wilson and Boyle, they also have Trevor Siemian on their practice squad.
