The Rangers won in impressive fashion, proving that they are two teams in one: one that can dominate and produce goals while being stingy on defense … and another that can’t defend or score at all. There have already been moments this season where Rangers hockey has disappointed, only to follow with a performance worthy of the off-season hype. At this point, there’s no getting excited until results like tonight’s are a matter of course.

Two power play goals — one each from Scott Gomez and Chris Drury — a goal from Marty Straka and another goal by Gomez brought the Ranger tally to 4. Henrik Lundqvist turned away all of the 18 shots he faced, benefiting from a defense that allowed only five shots through the 1st and 2nd periods.

All told, it’s hard to complain about tonight’s contest; the only misgivings come from the precedent set by the club this season for going hot and cold without much warning or any discernible cause.
