TSN reports that Sean Avery was awarded a $1.9M, one-year pact from arbitration, and he’ll stay on Broadway. The Rangers were reportedly very positive about the deal.

“We are pleased to have Sean under contract and are looking forward to him returning with the same passion and enthusiasm he brought to our team last year,” said Sather through a press release.

Sean AveryAvery earned $1.1 million last season and the Rangers offered $1.3M in arbitration. The forward sought an award of $2.6M. In 322 career games, he has 50 goals and 134 points, as well as 913 penalty minutes.

With the burden of Scott Gomez and Chris Drury’s contracts, and the one-year $4.5M pact offered to Lundqvist, the Rangers don’t currently have much cap room. Dispensing of Kasparaitis to Hartford would reportedly take care of close to $3M against the cap, but more movements may be needed to accommodate Avery’s contract.

Of Avery, Sather also said: “He is a terrific competitor, who we expect to play a significant role in a successful season.”
