Sean Avery looks like he is coming back to New York, not to play hockey, but to have a meeting with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who suspended the former Rangers forward indefinitely today for making comments about his ex-girlfriend.

Avery, who now plays with the Stars, was in Calgary where Dallas is playing the Flames tonight and took the opportunity to open his big mouth, again. Avery’s ex-girlfriend, actress and former “24” star Elisha Cuthbert, is dating Flames’ defenseman Dion Phaneuf and Avery commented on the situation.

“I’m really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada,” started Avery before smirking, according to the Edmonton Sun.

“I just wanted to comment on how it’s become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don’t know what that’s about. But, enjoy the game tonight.”

The Calgary-born Cuthbert has also reportedly dated Montreal Canadiens’ defenseman Mike Komisarek according to the Sun.

Avery is suspended pending a meeting with Bettman. The league says the suspension was imposed Tuesday after Avery made “inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game.”
