The Devils have made some impact acquisitions this offseason, and on Wednesday they took care of one of their own.

They avoided arbitration with defenseman Will Butcher by re-signing him to a three-year, $11.2 million deal.

The 24-year-old Butcher, whom the Devils signed as a free agent out of college two years ago, posted five goals and 39 assists for 44 points in 81 games as a rookie in 2017-18 and was named to the NHL’s All-Rookie Team. Last season, Butcher finished with four goals and 26 assists for 30 points in 78 games.

New Jersey’s big offseason makes it a team to keep an eye on for the coming season. The Devils drafted Jack Hughes No. 1 overall, acquired P.K. Subban and Nikita Gusev in trades and signed Wayne Simmonds.

They still have roughly $8.7 million in cap space left for 2019-20, and their next task is striking a long-term deal with former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall, who has one year left on his contract.
