Devils’ TV voice Mike Emrick tomorrow in Toronto will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as recipient of the Foster Hewitt Award for broadcasting. The pleasure is not just the NHL’s, but all sports’.
As outstanding as “Doc” (he holds a doctorate in radio/TV) is at calling games – his dead-on descriptions, devoted application of history and superb sense of all moments are superior in the chronicles of any form of live broadcasting – his professional achievement finishes second to his comportment while off the job.
You’ll never meet a finer, more giving gentleman, so help me.
To Emrick, just 62, and his wife, Joyce, from this eternal admirer: Nice start!
