Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov was suspended for three games Wednesday for a penalized elbow on Carolina’s Zach Boychuk in New Jersey’s 3-2 overtime victory in Newark on Tuesday night.

Volchenkov will miss Thursday’s visit to Toronto, Saturday’s game against San Jose in Newark and a rematch with Carolina next Wednesday in Newark.

Volchenkov took all three minor penalties doled out in Tuesday’s game and incurred a benching and the wrath of Devils coach Jacques Lemaire in the process.

New Jersey has Mark Fraser available on defense.
