The Islanders parted with LW Blake Comeau today when their 2004 second-rounder was claimed by the Flames on waivers.
The 25-year-old was on a new $2.5 million contract and had not produced a point for the Isles in 16 games, while going minus-11, second worst on the team behind Marty Reasoner’s minus-13.
One team not unhappy to see Comeau depart was the Devils. Comeau was 6-6-12 in 18 career games against them, compared to his career stats of 50-59-109 in 243 games against the rest of the NHL.
Comeau sat out the Isles’ 5-0 loss in Pittsburgh Nov. 21 and skated a season-low 6:45 in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Flyers Wednesday, in the Isles’ last game before today’s meeting with the Devils at Nassau Coliseum.
