NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Islanders already have one goalie down for the count this season.
They suffered a major scare with Ilya Sorokin on Tuesday night as well.
Sorokin did not come out for the third period against the Predators, getting replaced by Marcus Hogberg after 40 minutes, and was not on the bench for the remainder of the 7-6 overtime loss.
“Upper body. He should be OK,” coach Patrick Roy said. “Just didn’t want to take any chances. Make sure that he was OK.”

Though it’s good news that taking him out of the game was precautionary, it would not be a surprise if the Islanders were conservative with Sorokin’s usage the rest of the season, with the team just two points from playoff elimination.

Hogberg stopped just seven of 10 shots after coming in, allowing two goals in the final 2:07 of regulation that let the Predators tie the game at six before Fedor Svechkov won it in overtime.
Both goals in regulation came with an empty net for the Predators, with the first at five-on-three.

The Islanders have just five games left in their season after Tuesday and are on the cusp of being eliminated from playoff contention after losing Tuesday while Montreal won.
Sorokin stopped just 19 of 23 shots before leaving the game, though the defense in front of him left quite a lot to be desired.
Nashville has been a bogey city for the Islanders, who have now lost six in a row at Bridgestone Arena, the last win coming on Oct. 28, 2017.
In addition to Tuesday’s heartbreaker, last year’s game ended with a freak Predators goal that hopped off a stick and over Sorokin’s head at the end of regulation.
