The Islanders and Matt Moulson have agreed on a three-year, $9.4 million contract.
“I want to be here and I think I’ve made that well know,” Moulson said after the Isles’ 4-2 loss to Carolina Wednesday. “I want to be here as much as anyone wants to be here.”
Islanders GM Garth Snow said recently that signing Moulson long-term was the No. 1 priority before the Feb. 28 trade deadline.
Moulson, 27, is fourth on the team with points (17 goals, 12 assists) this season and was thought of to be a good rental for a playoff-contending team in need of a scorer. Now, as the Islanders head into the All-Star break without an All-Star and 20 points out of playoff position, they can at least rest assured one problem has been solved.
Last year, Moulson had a career season, leading the Islanders with 30 goals. In the offseason, he went to arbitration and was awarded a one-year deal worth $2.45 million.
