The Islanders have officially announced the appointment of forward Doug Weight as the team’s 12th captain in the organization’s 37-year history.

Kyle Okposo, Richard Park, Mark Streit and Brendan Witt have all been named assistant captains.

Weight, a veteran of 18 NHL seasons, enters his second year with the Islanders after playing 1,184 career NHL games. Last season he scored 38 points (10 goals and 28 assists) in 53 games. At times last season, Weight served as the team’s assistant captain.
